About me
“If you can do anything else that isn’t acting, do it.”
Sound advice from my parents who were both actors.
I like to think I followed it, just not in the way that they’d intended. Firstly, I ran away to the circus. It wasn’t technically ‘acting,’ but it wasn’t technically what they meant either. The training in physical theatre, storytelling, clowning and devising was extremely beneficial, and I utilise a lot of it in my acting today for theatre and screen work.
I also learnt how to make shows, and alongside working as an actor, I became a writer, director and producer and gained extensive international touring experience. My work spans new writing, classical theatre, and screen projects, with credits across the UK, Europe, Asia, Africa and Aotearoa New Zealand.
Since relocating to New Zealand in 2021, I’ve founded two production companies: Figment Productions, which recently completed a national sell-out tour of In Other Words starring Michael Hurst and Jennifer Ward-Lealand (co-directed and produced by me), and B&B Productions, which toured sell out show Waiting for Waiting for Godot—directed by Michael Hurst, starring myself.
In the UK, I was a founding member, actor and associate director of the critically acclaimed and award-winning Shakespeare theatre company The HandleBards, performing around 60 characters in hundreds of shows across 13 countries over 6 years. I also performed in The National Theatre's Watch This Space festival, and in West Side Story for the Prince’s Trust for the Royal Family.
My on-screen credits include Brexit: The Uncivil War, The Scandalous Four, Say Yes to the Dress UK, and FE roles in Downton Abbey and One of Us is Lying. I've also appeared in European-wide commercials.
During my career, I’ve worked with practitioners from the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Globe, the Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company and Adam Spiegel Productions on London’s West End. I worked as Associate Producer at the Young Vic on Theatre Uncut with BAFTA nominee Sarah Brocklehurst; produced shows at the Old Vic Tunnels in London under Artistic Director Hamish Jenkinson; worked and performed with Olivier award-winner Marisa Carnesky; spent some time in casting in the West End; and worked as Assistant Director to Hannah Price for LBP Ltd. I’ve also written and published interviews for WhatsonStage, including with the Artistic Director of Cirque du Soleil, and have been interviewed myself on radio and in print (Stuff NZ, Living North UK, Radio Lancaster, and more).
I’m passionate about telling meaningful stories, creating high quality productions, and collaborating with great people. I see performing as a form of service - an opportunity to connect people and to make work that’s creative, authentic, and contributes something positive to the world, promoting the best aspects of humanity.
